Dreams and Beauty

In Langston Hughes's poem Dreams he inspires others to hold on to their dreams, because without them we are lifeless and hindered. Dreams are what inspire us and help us to succeed and be human. Hughes, like Alice Walker in the essay “Beauty: When the Other Dancer is the Self”, uses rhetorical devices such as an inspiring tone, repetition, and sentence structure to communicate to the audience, whether it is a student, dedicated reader, or just your average person. Hughes chose to focus on an individual’s dreams where as Walker encouraged the reader to accept your beauty not by how others saw you but on how you saw yourself, however the authors achieved the same goal of improving the life of the reader through their words. Both authors encouraged me think about myself and what I am doing to improve myself.
